His research addresses mechanisms underlying the tissue response to injury, emphasizing expression controls on inflammation and fibrosis-promoting factors. The current efforts focus on defining mechanisms underlying TGF-β1-induced PAI-1 expression, use of clinically-relevant mouse models of human fibrotic disease and development of molecular "reagents", including PAI-1 oligo decoys, antisense constructs, small molecule inhibitors and microRNAs that target PAI-1 gene expression/function.
