Histology of normal tissues

Section aims to publish research on cytological, histological and immunohistochemical features of normal tissues, with emphasis on new findings which could contribute to better understand cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix interactions in healthy tissues. The scope of the section includes reviews, original articles and hypothetical theories.

Immunohistochemistry of human tumors

Section aims to publish research on new immunohistochemical markers exploitable in the differential diagnosis and classification of malignant tumors, as well as in the identification of predictive factors of prognosis and therapy. The scope of the section includes reviews and original articles.

Embryology and anatomy

Section aims to publish research on morphological and immunohistochemical features of developing and normal adult human tissues. Topics covered include morphogenesis and organogenesis. Comparative immunohistochemical studies on developing and neoplastic tissues will be published in order to identify potential links between the pathways involved in the ontogenesis and the onset of cancer. The scope of the section includes reviews, original articles and hypothetical theories.

Morphological bases of human diseases

Section aims to publish research of human diseases, with particular emphasis on the basic morphological changes involving cells and tissues (cell response to inflammation, degenerative changes related to age or accumulation of pathological substances, hypertrophy, hyperplasia, metaplasia, dysplasia, in situ carcinoma). The scope of the section includes reviews, original articles and case reports.

Clinico-pathological features of human tumors

Section aims to publish research on the usual and unusual clinical, radiological and morphological features of human tumors. In this regard, the correlation between clinical and pathological features will be discussed with emphasis on differential diagnosis. The scope of the section includes case reports, original articlesand reviews.

Diagnostic pitfalls in surgical pathology

Section aims to publish research on potential diagnostic pitfalls encountered by surgical pathologists, especially when approaching pre-operative cytological (FNAC) and/or histological (core biopsy) diagnosis. Challenging cases will be published with emphasis on diagnostic morphological and immunohistochemicalclues. The scope of the section is to publish diagnostically challenging cases.
